| What to wear - In association with Regatta If you are venturing onto the ice rink you have to think carefully about what you wear from top to toe. Remember, you will be in the outdoors and therefore open to the elements! Clothing If you are ice-skating, then you will be active and therefore it is best that you wear layers, which can be added and taken away the warmer you get. A good layering system starts with a wicking base layer – a thermal top or wicking t-shirt, followed by a midlayer – either a softshell or fleece, topped with a waterproof and breathable jacket. This will ensure that you stay comfortable and be able to stay out on the rink longer. Accessories You will be provided with the necessary boots if required but you therefore need to be equipped with a comfortable thick pair of socks to allow for a good snug fit. A lot of heat can be lost through your head so a nice warm hat that covers your ears would be ideal. Team that with a cosy scarf and you have that area covered! Gloves are also an essential. If you think that you will fall over then waterproof gloves are the best so that they don’t wet out and make you feel cold. Calling all spectators For spectators, make sure that you are wrapped up with warm layers, because standing still will mean that you don’t generate heat and will get cold! And don’t forget you can always get a nice warm cup of hot chocolate! For all your winter weather wear, visit regatta.com. For a real bargain, click through to the Regatta outlet site. |
